Life is about to get crazier

Hello out there – I hope that you are all taking good care of yourselves and doing whatever you need to get through this difficult time.

I’m with my husband and doggy-Anton in Cornwall for a long weekend away as I write this and am savouring every moment before my life goes crazy. You see, my background is in Intensive Care Nursing, and I asked my wonderful NHS Trust if they would consider seconding me to work back there during the crisis. They immediately said yes, and so the future suddenly looks different and scary.

What about Book 2 and 3 in the Shadowed Space series?

Don’t worry, they are both in the editing stage, and I have a not-so-secret weapon in Amy Duboff. I plan to continue writing whenever I can. Still, I know what is about to happen, and it’s impossible to walk away at the end of a shift unless there is someone available to take over.

I want to post regular updates on what’s happening in my life and comment on wider issues as there is a lot of misinformation out there. Here is one.

We need to develop herd immunity – Don’t we?

The UK Government went for this option and then did a u-turn rather quickly when they realised how many people would die. Credit to them for pulling it back so quickly.

We need 60% of the population to contract Covid 19 and recover to build herd immunity, so why don’t we just let young people get it? Yes, but even within the low-risk groups, some will need oxygen and hospitalisation. Out of those, some will require time on a ventilator. No health care system in the world can cope with the numbers of people who will need hospital admission on top of their current workload, so please follow the guidelines and take care.

These are scary times, but human beings have a history of achieving amazing things when they work together, and there are some seriously smart people out there studying everything and advising the way forward.

Stay safe x
